What is Holistic Coaching?

Holistic coaching is a dynamic partnership in which the coach and client collaborate to stimulate the client's creative thinking through purposeful action. This process empowers individuals to discover and pursue their unique path, with the coach providing guidance to illuminate and enrich their journey.

Unlike psychotherapy, coaching refrains from diagnosis and/or medical intervention. Instead, coaching centers on identifying and refining a client’s unique aspirations while developing and implementing specific plans of action that lead to those goals. It’s about applying curiosity and introspection to one’s broad spectrum of desired goals, whether they are in entrepreneurship, education, lifestyle enhancements, communication refinement, career transitions, self-discovery, etc.

Holistic/Lifestyle

Holistic/lifestyle is a broad area of coaching that works towards identifying and eliminating negative patterns in a client’s daily life. Coaching can help identify tension/pain points that cause us to feel stuck and can negatively affect our life experiences, our goals, and our relationships. Lifestyle coaching examines one’s daily activities, such as sleeping, exercising, socializing, intimacy, screen time, and substance use as well as vocational and familial obligations for areas of growth or improvement. Holistic/Lifestyle coaching is a path that can help you achieve the more vibrant and loving life that most of us would like to enjoy.

Nutritional

Nutrition plays a crucial role in coaching. Whether it’s related to medical diagnoses, spiritual practices, weight management, pain, or a myriad of other reasons, our relationships with food and diets are critical to our wellbeing.  Exploring those relationships with wonder and curiosity can lead to profound physical and mental health improvements. After all, it’s not just what you eat, but when you eat, how you choose what you eat, how and when you shop for food, your emotional connections with various foods, food preparation, and yes, even your relationship with washing the dishes. Engage in a new relationship with food and nutrition—one that provides nourishment for more than just your belly.

Transformational

This is a newer term that has begun to be used in the coaching world. If you think about it, all of life is transformative. Just getting older transforms our bodies, minds, emotions, and social relationships. Can we explore ourselves with curiosity and choose to transform?  It is Keith’s opinion that a holistic integrative approach to coaching will identify areas that are very likely be transformative for one’s path forward. This can occur with the body, mind, or spirit—and with any luck occurs in all three. For transformation to happen, one needs to be committed to keep moving forward. Sometimes, finding that commitment can itself be the opening focus of coaching work.  The fact that you are reading this means you are already on the path of transformative discovery, marching towards a destination that has yet to be determined.

Contemplative/Spiritual

Spiritual and meditative coaching, though less commonplace, is a tradition in which Keith has 40+ years of experience. Not only can he provide the coaching framework for the journey but he is well versed in many of the contemplative arts and can also function as a “meditation mechanic” helping with the details of one’s practice.  Whether you're nurturing a meditation routine, seeking to establish one, or eager to delve into diverse contemplative methods, Keith's education and experience with interfaith practices will help you enrich your practice and empower you down a journey of deeper self-discovery, regardless of your beliefs. With Keith’s unwavering support and encouragement, spiritual coaching clients can expect to enrich, refine, or simply begin the spiritual practice that they desire.

Academic/Occupational

Keith has taught classes for K-12, college, graduate, and medical school students and residents. He spent a decade overseeing the multi-specialty evaluation of various learning challenges for children and adolescents. In this area, Keith provides progress-oriented coaching for those who are finding their academic or occupational path challenging. On the occupational front, Keith has worked with individuals in all fields, including teachers, physicians, psychologists, receptionists, attorneys, engineers, designers, business owners, executives, injured workers, law enforcement officers, government employees, and more. This multi-faceted experience allows Keith to identify specific points within various occupations that are not fitting well while helping you explore and implement solutions.
